Removal of tattoos and permanent make-up by laser
- Nowadays, tattoos can be removed without leaving scars by using q-switched solid-phase lasers (ruby laser, alexandrite laser, neodyme:YAG-laser). This works best for single colored, so-called lay tattoos. Colored professional tattoos are much more difficult to remove.
- The mode of action for these lasers results from destruction of pigments by the short high energetic laser impulse (q-switch). The generated small pigment fragments are ingested by skin macrophages and are subsequently removed.
- Usually, 6 – 8 or more treatments of the same area are required to achieve a satisfactory lightening/removal. For professional tattoos considerably more treatments might be necessary.
- Costs are calculated according to GOÄ (Gebührenordnung Ärzte, regulations for physicians' fees) and result from the treated area per therapeutic session.
